Beverley is the author of Whirligigs in the Backyard.

Beverley was born in Singapore. She immigrated to Australia with her family at the age of two. She enjoyed a successful career as a management consultant and Executive Headhunter across three continents for over 30 years, before retiring to Queensland with her husband in 2016. Having written detailed descriptions of senior executives from their birth to present day, she says, “writing her own coming-of-age memoir seemed an innate progression.” Her first creative short stories often centred around the comical aspects of growing up as one of the earliest Eurasian families in Australia. ABC Radio invited Beverley to read two of those on air which will be available on this website soon. Beverley is a member of the Queensland Writers Centre & the Gold Coast Writers Association who published one of her stories in an Anthology. Beverley’s first major writing project is a memoir based on her coming-of-age in Australia entitled Whirligigs in the Backyard. See links on this website.

This candid Australian memoir traces Beverley’s coming-of-age in Sydney’s western suburbs during the social upheaval of the 1960s. The book explores her escape from a restrictive religious cult, her navigation of the cultural shifts of the era, and her experience growing up within one of Australia’s early Eurasian immigrant families following the decline of colonialism in Asia. Blending social history with personal reflection, the narrative examines identity, race, belonging, faith, and the risks of youthful rebellion in a rapidly changing Australia. With strong Australian connections and multicultural themes, it will appeal to readers interested in Australian memoir, migration history, and the social transformation of the post-war period. The book has recently been published by Ark House Press and is available on most book sites in Australia and Amazon both locally and internationally. The title is available through standard distribution channels and can be ordered using the ISBN 978-1-7640298-4-1 (paperback) and ISBN 978-1-7643820-5-2 (ebk). Links on this website.
